Tea export increases by 69 Percent
MECHI, NOVEMBER 19: The Mechi Customs Office has reported a 69.22 percent increase in tea exports during the first four months of the current fiscal year. From mid-July to mid-November, the country exported 8,062.16 metric tonnes of tea through this strategically located customs point, which serves as a key gateway for tea exports, as the majority of Nepal's tea is produced in the hills of eastern Nepal.
Information Officer Ganapati Kandel informed the state-run news agency RSS that the export value of tea also saw a significant rise, increasing by 67.87 percent. The tea exports during the review period were valued at Rs 2.20 billion, compared to Rs 1.31 billion during the same period last year.
However, exports of other products showed a decline. The Office reported decreases in the exports of black cardamom, ginger, broom grass (amriso), hardened cheese (chhurpi), cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli.
Specifically, black cardamom exports fell by 11.87 percent, broom grass by 11.66 percent, hardened cheese by 41.45 percent, and exports of cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli collectively dropped by 27.98 percent.On a positive note, plywood exports saw a 29.63 percent increase during the same period.
The Customs Office also generated Rs 4.72 billion in revenue in the first four months, achieving 27.22 percent of its annual revenue target.
