National Security Council recommends procedures for army mobilization in by-election

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 20 : The National Security Council (NSC) has recommended to the Council of Ministers the procedures for mobilizing the Nepali Army during the upcoming local-level by-election scheduled for December 1.

At its 36th meeting held yeserday, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the NSC proposed the mobilization procedures to ensure the election is conducted in a free, fair, and fear-free environment. This recommendation was shared by Rameshwar Dangal, Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

As per Article 266, Sub-Article 1 of the Constitution of Nepal, the NSC is mandated to advise the Government of Nepal, through the Council of Ministers, on matters related to the formulation of policies concerning national interest, security, and defence, as well as the mobilization and control of the Nepal Army.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Defence, the Chief Secretary, the Chief of the Army Staff, and the Defence Secretary.
