Forward7, Sistema.bio to bring subsidized modern biogas technology to small farm owners

Plan to install 800 biogas units across Nepal and Indonesia

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 22 : The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Forward7 Initiative, formerly known as the Kingdom’s Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking, has partnered with Sistema.bio, a global social enterprise specializing in innovative biogas technology, to provide subsidized biodigesters to smallholder farmers in Nepal and Indonesia. The initiative plans to install 800 biogas units across these countries, with Sistema.bio collaborating with the Nepal Biogas Promotion Association (NBPA) and PT Biru Karbon Nusantara (BKN) as key implementation partners.

Set to conclude in January 2025, the project represents a significant stride toward enhancing clean energy access for smallholder dairy farmers. Supported by the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI), Forward7 focuses on improving rural livelihoods by offering clean cooking solutions that reduce CO2 emissions, promote better health, empower women, uplift marginalized communities, and protect the environment.

This initiative also aims to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and enhance rural infrastructure while scaling up international cooperation to mitigate climate change impacts. By addressing challenges associated with biogas systems, such as high non-functionality rates, the project will employ robust strategies, including marketing and awareness campaigns, quality control during installation, and addressing user adaptation and affordability issues.

Under this program, biogas plants ranging from 2 to 40 cubic meters will be installed, enabling farmers to convert organic waste into renewable energy, thus reducing reliance on traditional cooking fuels like wood and coal. The biodigesters will also produce biofertilizer as a by-product, providing a cost-effective alternative to chemical fertilizers and improving soil health.

Forward7, launched in 2021 as part of the MGI, is committed to providing clean cooking solutions to 750 million people globally. It incorporates technologies like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electric stoves, solar-powered stoves, and biodigesters to address the harmful effects of traditional cooking practices, such as those involving charcoal and wood. These solutions aim to mitigate health risks, reduce environmental degradation, and save lives.

Sistema.bio, a leading social enterprise, delivers biodigester technology along with training and financing to tackle poverty, food insecurity, and climate change. Its high-quality, affordable biodigesters help farmers convert waste into clean energy and organic fertilizer while reducing carbon footprints. Supported by IoT and backed by robust measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, Sistema.bio empowers farmers globally to become more productive, sustainable, and environmentally efficient.

This collaboration between Forward7 and Sistema.bio underscores a shared commitment to advancing clean energy access, addressing climate change, and supporting smallholder farmers in creating sustainable livelihoods.
