Mobile sets amounting to over Rs 13 billion in 4 months

China alone has a share of Rs. 9.19 billion

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 24: In the first four months of the current fiscal year 2080/81, mobile phones worth over Rs. 13 billion were imported into Nepal.

According to the Customs Department, by the end of Kartik, Nepal imported 827,925 mobile phones of various brands valued at Rs. 13.40 billion. Of these, imports from China alone accounted for 611,997 units worth Rs. 9.19 billion, while 213,049 units worth Rs. 4.02 billion came from India.

Additionally, mobile phones were imported from the following countries:

  • 1,024 phones worth Rs. 906,000 from Vietnam
  • 416 phones worth Rs. 49.36 million from the USA
  • 285 phones worth Rs. 34.33 million from the UAE
  • 392 phones worth Rs. 29.49 million from Japan
  • 150 phones worth Rs. 11.01 million from Korea
  • 138 phones worth Rs. 15.18 million from Australia
  • 101 phones worth Rs. 11.93 million from Qatar
  • 61 phones worth Rs. 6.57 million from the UK

The government collected Rs. 2.49 billion in revenue from mobile phone imports.

Furthermore, according to the department's data, Nepal also imported 1,423,071 mobile chargers of various brands worth Rs. 273.9 million by Kartik of this fiscal year. The government earned Rs. 83.5 million in revenue from charger imports.

Of the total mobile phones imported into Nepal, 80% were from China, around 15% from India, and the remaining 5% came from countries such as the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Vietna
