Govt fixes sugarcane price

The government has set the price of sugarcane for the current fiscal year 2024/25. On Thursday, it announced a price hike of Rs. 20 per quintal, bringing the new rate to Rs. 585 per quintal.
However, the Sugarcane Farmers' Association in Mahottari expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the increase does not correspond to the general rise in commodity prices, further exacerbating farmers' frustration.
Naresh Singh Kushwaha, the district president of the association, criticized the government for not consulting sugar producers or sugarcane farmers before determining the new price.
