KMC unveils "Koseli Ghar" to promote local products
Rs 500,000 allotted for the current fiscal year to implement this initiative
KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 10: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched the "Koseli Ghar" program to promote and market local products from all 32 wards. Under the "One Ward, One Model" initiative, the program will highlight and sell unique products from each ward, according to Samiksha Niroula, Chief of the Social Development Department.
Locally produced goods will be collected at designated Koseli Ghar (gift houses) and sold from there. KMC has allocated NPR 500,000 for the current fiscal year to implement this initiative.
Products such as Gundruk (fermented leafy greens), Sinki (fermented radish), corn, various pickles, and wooden crafts made using local resources will be showcased and sold through Koseli Ghars. Currently, the procedural framework for managing and operating the gift houses is under development.
Free clothing distribution through Clothing Bank
As part of the Swarnim Yojana (Golden Plan), KMC will operate a clothing bank to distribute clothes free of charge to those in need. The framework for this initiative is under preparation and is expected to be finalized by mid-Poush (late December). Once completed, the clothing bank will commence operations.
According to Niroula, a minimum of one clothing collection center will be established in each of the 32 wards. Additionally, KMC will set up a repair center for collected clothes, where they will be sorted. Clothes deemed unsuitable for use will be repurposed into quilts and mattresses, while those requiring minor or no repairs will be packaged and distributed as needed.
The program aims to reuse discarded clothing, reduce textile-related environmental pollution, and provide for individuals in need. Distribution locations will be finalized once the operational framework is completed. For this initiative, KMC has allocated NPR 5 million in the current fiscal year.
