Rana appointed as CEO of SCBNL

He will be the first Nepali national to lead the bank

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 10: Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) announced the appointment of Gorakh Rana as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Head of Coverage, Nepal, as well as Executive Director of the Board of SCBNL, effective January 1, 2025. His appointment was approved at the Bank's Board meeting held yesterday.

Gorakh succeeds Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, who will step down as CEO and Head of Coverage, Nepal, at the end of his term, following six successful years leading the Bank's Nepal franchise. Anirvan will relocate to take on a new role within the Bank's global network. He will also assume the position of Special Advisor to the SCBNL Board, continuing to work closely with the Board and stakeholders to support the Bank's strategic priorities.

"With over 30 years of experience at Standard Chartered, Gorakh brings extensive expertise as a senior leader, having held key roles across Corporate & Investment Banking and Wealth & Retail Banking businesses in Nepal," states a press release issued by the bank. "He has deep knowledge of the local banking industry and has been a prominent representative of the Bank’s Nepal franchise in industry and regulatory forums. As Deputy CEO, Gorakh has already played a pivotal role in driving business growth and strengthening the Bank's presence in Nepal."

Notably, Gorakh will be the first Nepali national to hold the CEO position at Standard Chartered Bank. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Knox College and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
