Government's revenue and expenditure fall short in five months
Only 28 percent of revenue taget met while just around 12 percent capital expenditure spent

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 16: In the first five months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, both the government’s revenue collection and expenditure have been underperforming. According to the Financial Comptroller General Office, by the end of Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December), the government collected 28% of its annual revenue target, while approximately 30% of the budget had been spent.
The mobilisation of development expenditure is also low. Of the Rs 352.35 billion allocated for capital expenditure this year, only 11.58%, or Rs 40.80 billion, was utilised.
For current expenditure, 31.87% of the allocated Rs 1,140.66 billion was spent, amounting to Rs 363.55 billion.
In the financial management category, which mainly covers public debt repayment, 41.32% of the allocated budget has been spent. Rs 367.28 billion was allocated for this purpose, with Rs 151.76 billion already used.
By the end of Mangsir, the government had collected Rs 405.77 billion, which is 27.57% of its annual revenue target of Rs 1,471.62 billion.
Additionally, although the government had set a target of receiving Rs 52.32 billion in foreign grants this year, no foreign grants have been received so far.
