Export trade up by 16.50 percent

Trade deficit remains at an alarming Rs 587 billion

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 23: Nepal's foreign trade, which was experiencing a prolonged negative trend, has recently shown signs of improvement.
According to data released by the Customs Department, imports increased by 3 percent, while exports rose by 16.5 percent during the fiscal year's first five months (Shrawan to Mangsir).

The export value during this period reached Rs. 73.20 billion, a rise of Rs 9.66 billion compared to Rs. 63.54 billion in the same period last fiscal year.

However, the trade deficit remains substantial. Nepal recorded a trade loss of Rs. 587 billion in the first five months of this fiscal year, reflecting a 4.21 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Petroleum products remain the largest import item. Over the past five months, Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs. 42.17 billion.
