Import of four-wheel motor vehicles down at Birgunj customs

BIRGUNJ (PASRSA), DECEMBER 24 : The import of four-wheel drive vehicles through the Birgunj customs checkpoint has declined in the first five months of the current fiscal year, which began on July 16.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, 482 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 920.34 million were imported through the checkpoint during this period. This represents a 38.13% decrease in the number of vehicles and a 16.43% drop in revenue compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
In the first five months of the last fiscal year, 779 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 1.20 billion were imported, generating Rs 2.81 billion in revenue, the Office reported.
The decline is not limited to petrol-fueled vehicles. The import of electric-powered four-wheelers has also significantly decreased. The Customs Office data shows that 97 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 14.79 million were imported in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
This marks a 59.07% drop in the number of electric vehicles imported and a 58.63% reduction in revenue compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal year. During that period, 237 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 465.85 million were imported, with the Office collecting Rs 203.56 million in revenue.
