'Nepal should learn lessons from China for prosperity'

KATHMANDU, MARCH 20: Experts and politicians have emphasized that Nepal should draw lessons from China's development initiatives to foster economic growth and physical prosperity.
Speaking at a program organized by the Friends of Silk Road Club-Nepal on China's Two Sessions 2025: Lessons, Opportunities, and Implications for Nepal on Thursday, they highlighted how Nepal can benefit from China's remarkable economic rise over the past four decades.
Karna Bahadur Thapa, Standing Committee Member of the CPN (UML) and former Minister of Industry stressed the need to strengthen Nepal-China relations and maximize benefits through sustainable development partnerships. "To achieve this, we must deepen our diplomatic ties at the political level," he added.
Similarly, Yubraj Chaulagain, CPN (Maoist Centre) central committee member and Bagmati Province Assembly Member, called for greater economic collaboration, stating that China’s growing economic power could significantly support Nepal’s development efforts.
Madhu Acharya, a central committee member of the Nepali Congress, underscored the importance of leveraging China’s technical expertise, noting that its rapid technological advancement is highly impressive.
Also speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Arjun Kumar Baral, Executive Director of CEDA at Tribhuvan University, and foreign affairs expert Gopal Khanal emphasized that Nepal should learn from China's strategies in economic growth, industrialization, modernization, governance, and reform.
Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma, General Secretary of the Club, highlighted the need for investment partnerships with China, suggesting that Nepal could attract significant FDI by further strengthening bilateral ties.
