Ghising removed from NEA as Executive Director
Shakya again reappointed to lead Authority

KATHMANDU, MARCH 25: The government has removed Kulman Ghising from his position as theExecutive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday evening.
A minister confirmed that the government had decided to remove Ghising from his position. Prior to this, the government had repeatedly sought explanations from him regarding various issues.
Ghising was appointed as the eXECUTIVE Director of NEA on August 9, 2021, following a Cabinet decision. This was his second term in office, which was originally set to end on August 8, 2024. However, the government dismissed him before the completion of his tenure. His tenure had become controversial due to issues related to dedicated and trunk power lines.
There had been ongoing disputes between Ghising and the government regarding power supply to industries. Earlier, the NEA had disconnected power lines to industries, citing unpaid dues for dedicated and trunk lines. However, after the formation of the KP Sharma Oli-led government, a decision was made to reconnect the power supply to industries.
Ghising was first appointed as the Executive Director of NEA on September 14, 2016, for a four-year term. His tenure ended on September 14, 2020, after which the government appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as his successor.
However, on August 12, 2021, the then-government removed Shakya and reappointed Ghising for a second term. But, with the latest removal of the latter, the former is again given the role of leading the NEA as Executive Director
