Flagship brand of the company-Current noodles- continues to gain traction in domestic and international markets

KATHMANDU, APRIL 15: Yashoda Foods, the maker of the apopular ‘Current’ noodles, has witnessed remarkable growth, with its annual turnover nearing Rs 6 billion. In 2024, the company recorded a year-on-year increase of 18.45 percent, reaching a total revenue of Rs 5.869 billion—up from Rs 4.955 billion in 2023.

According to Care Rating Nepal Limited, the company posted a turnover of Rs 3.432 billion in 2022, showcasing consistent growth over the years. This impressive performance is largely attributed to the surging demand for ‘Current’—its flagship spicy noodle brand—which continues to gain traction in both domestic and international markets.

A privately held enterprise headquartered in Tilottama-15, Rupandehi, Yashoda Foods manufactures a diverse range of snacks, including noodles and cheese balls. The company boasts an annual production capacity of 42,000 metric tons for noodles and 4,500 metric tons for other snack products.

With an aim to promoting local agriculture and sustainability, the company sources a majority of its raw materials from Nepali farmers and industries. Ingredients such as Akbare chilli, Gundruk  (fermented leafy green vegetable), Sichuan pepper, buckwheat, millet, and refined flour are integral to the creation of its snack portfolio.

Under the Current brand, Yashoda Foods produces a vibrant range of products including noodles, cheese balls, sticks, potato crackers, onion rings, ragi (millet) snacks, roasted makhana, chips, and namkeen. The growing popularity of ‘Current’ noodles in Nepal has also spurred increasing demand abroad. The company proudly states that its products, made with locally sourced ingredients and authentic flavors, are now gaining recognition in international markets.

Utilizing 90 percent domestic raw materials, the company crafts flavorful, international-standard snacks that resonate with consumers worldwide. 'Current' noodles—now a household name in Nepal—are exported to 22 countries. The company’s international turnover alone has surpassed Rs 1 billion annually.

Yashoda Foods reports that Current noodles are being exported to nearly two dozen countries, including India, Australia, and the United States. Other destinations include Canada, Singapore, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE (Dubai), Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, Malaysia, South Korea, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Qatar, New Zealand, the Cayman Islands, and Papua New Guinea.

In a strategic move last year, the company merged its subsidiary—Yashoda Noodles and Snacks Pvt. Ltd.—into the parent entity, Yashoda Foods. As per Care Ratings, the company has secured a credit rating for bank loans amounting to Rs 2 billion.

Established in 2017, Yashoda Foods seems to have rapidly carved a niche for itself in Nepal’s competitive food manufacturing sector. Driven by rising demand and a growing consumer base, the company has recently expanded its production capacity in Butwal and Chandrouta, Kapilvastu. Looking ahead, Yashoda Foods is preparing to scale up production further and broaden its footprint in global markets.
