Private sector decries Sirohiya’s arrest

KATHMANDU, MAY 23: The private sector bodies have criticised the government for arresting media entrepreneur Kailash Sirohia. He, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group, was detained yesterday based on a complaint accusing him of using multiple citizenships.
Issuing a joint-statement, the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) said, “The detention of Sirohia based on a mere complaint is totally unjustifiable and will only enfeeble the morale of entrepreneurs, businessmen and investors.”
According to them, they have long been advocating that no one shall be arrested based on just complaints or allegations without giving a chance to clarify themselves.
