NMB Bank Launches WeChat Pay in Nepal
Kathmandu, June 22. WeChat Pay, a subsidiary of Tencent Holdings Limited, has officially launched in the Nepalese market through a strategic partnership with NMB Bank. This revolutionary collaboration was commemorated at a prestigious ceremony attended by His Excellency Mr. Chen Song, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Dhana Raj Acharya the Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City,Mr. Guru Prasad Paudel, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank,Mr. Dhananjay Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board,Mr. Yogendra Lal Pradhan, Director of NMB Bank andMr. Sunil K.C., Chief Executive Officer of NMB Bank at lakeside Pokhara.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Guest, His Excellency Mr. Chen Song, demonstrated the convenience and versatility of WeChat Pay by making a transaction with a local merchant via WeChat Pay QR code. This philanthropic act highlighted the platform’s ability to make seamless digital financial transactions, showcasing its potential to support in-flow of foreign currency in the country, empower communities and foster social impact.
This partnership unlocks new opportunities for Chinese visitors, business personnel’s and other visitors having WeChat Pay account. The visitors will now have the convenience to use their WeChat Pay digital wallet directly to make payments in Nepal through NMB Bank Limitedusing the payment system approved by the regulatory body, Nepal Rastra Bank, creating hustle free currency exchange environment.
‘The Banker Magazine’ of The Financial Times, London, has awarded NMB Bank with the prestigious Bank of the Year Asia 2021.
