Tesla planning to produce Rs. 20 lakh cost car

Agency, July 25. Tesla is planning to work on a new car for the Indian market as well as for exports. The car is likely to cost Rs 20 lakh ($24,000). A Reuters report claims that Tesla representatives will meet India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal this month to discuss setting up a factory in India to produce the budget-friendly EV.

Reports suggest that Tesla is looking to set up a local manufacturing base in India. The proposed factory will not only cater to the demand for affordable EVs in the Indian market, but will also act as an export hub. Tesla’s 20 lakh rupees car can prove to be a game changer. Right now Tesla’s cheapest car is the Model 3 sedan. Its price is $32,200 (Rs 26.32 lakh).

According to a report in Business Today, Tesla may set up its giga factory in southern India and Gujarat. This state-of-the-art factory will have the capacity to manufacture around 5 lakh vehicles every year. Apart from vehicle manufacturing, Tesla also aims to set up a charging infrastructure across the country. At the same time, Elon Musk is also going to come to India next year, i.e. in 2024.

Last month, Elon Musk met Prime Minister Modi in New York. When asked about the timeline of Tesla coming to India after meeting PM Modi, Musk had said, “I believe Tesla will be in India soon.”
