824 climbers take permission to scale various peaks this spring

Kathmandu, April 30 . Eight hundred and twenty-four climbers belonging to 100 mountaineering expedition teams have taken permission to climb 27 mountain peaks, including Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), the world’s highest peak, in this Spring climbing season, the Department of Tourism has stated.

Among these climbers, 377 climbers of 39 teams have taken permission to climb Sagarmatha. They include 364 foreign climbers of 34 teams and 13 Nepali of five teams.
Three hundred and forty-six climbers of 38 teams had acquired permission to scale the world’s highest peak in the spring season of 2018. They included 34 foreign teams and four Nepali teams.

The Department has stated that Rs 487 million 419 thousand 662 has been collected as royalty from the climbers. This figure does not include royalty from one team that has got permission to climb Mt Everest and expedition teams climbing other smaller peaks.

Department’s official Rameshwar Niraula expressed the belief that Rs 500 million would be collected as mountaineering revenue in this spring season. Of this amount of revenue, the highest amount comes from mountaineering royalty collected from climbers attempting to scale Mt Everest. This figure is Rs 435 million 255 thousand 912.

Similarly, 92 climbers of 10 teams have taken permission to climb Mt Lhotse, 49 climbers belonging to five teams have acquired permission to climb Mt Ama Dablam, 32 ountaineers of five teams have got permission to climb MT Kanchanjangha and 53 climbers from three teams have been issued permission to scale Mt Makalu. Three mountaineering teams have taken permission to climb Mt Annapurna and Mt Dhawalagiri each.

According to the Department, many climbers have set out beyond the Base Camp of Mt Everest. Department director-general Dundu Raj Ghimire said almost all climbers attempting Mt Everest have reached the Base Camp and Camp II and Camp III.
Around 500 climbers from 48 countries have come for climbing Mt Everest this season.RSS
