BATAS Foundation hands over water supply project

Dupcheshwar, Nuwakot, Dec 1 . BATAS Foundation in partnership with lslamic Relief Worldwide Nepal has implemented the project “Safe Water Access in Nepal” funded by lslamic Relief US in Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality-5, Balkumari of Nuwakot district.

As part of post-Earthquake recovery programme, the project supported for the construction including rehabilitation of Drinking Water Supply Facilities at Schools, Public Bathing Spaces and community awareness on personal hygiene and sanitation promotion.

The project was handed over to the local community on Friday. Altogether 76 households have benefited from the drinking water supply project at Dupcheshwar. Water has been supplied to the community from 46 taps.

Temmangsim Suryadanda Water Supply and Sanitation Project has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 3.2 million. Speaking in the project handing over function, Dupcheshwar rural municipality chairman Yogendra Singh Tamang appreciated the Foundation and the Islamic Relief Worldwide for supporting the local community in addressing their problem.

National representative of the Islamic Relief Worldwide Nepal, Talla Jaman, expressed happiness for providing assistance in basic sectors as water supply and sanitation. He said the programme could also be extended in other places of the district as well.

BATAS Foundation vice-chair Bidya Bhusan Bajracharya said the Foundation had distributed relief including clothes to the locals immediately after the earthquake in 2015 and the water supply project has been constructed as demanded by the local people.

Water has been supplied to the Mahadev Secondary School and the Ujjawal Basic School at the village from this project. Similarly, the project supplies water to the local ward office and health post. Three bathrooms have also been constructed for the convenience of the lactating women.

A water supply project has also been completed in Thansingh of Nuwakot through the collaboration of BATAS Foundation and the IRWN. House with toilets have been handed over to around 150 earthquake survivors in Rasuwa district, Foundation member Bindu Manandhar said.
