4 veterans honored with Nabil Skill Hero Award on Closing Ceremony of Skill Week 2021
Kathmandu,March 31. Skill Week 2021, the second edition ended with a grand closing ceremony amidst a special gathering held at Soaltee Crown Plaza on Monday, in the presence of prominent entrepreneurs, government diplomats, and 100+ aspirant enthusiasts. The event was successfully organized by Glocal Pvt Ltd with the aim to engage and promote the extensive skilling opportunities and showcasing emerging skills; ranging from business, services, technology to art and culture field; a program designed for youth with several training, interactions, workshops, competitions and exposure to skill development which held from March 21 to 29 at different locations in Kathmandu Valley.
This event was one of its kind which fosters skills to be the most important component in the competitive world. This event was an open platform for youth, i.e. the entries were free, to participate and know about skills, its importance and scope in the market. This event helped youth to explore, get engaged and educate in the various skills.
The event had a lot of elements in it. Skill Week event comprised of series of Workshops, Competitions, Case Studies, Internship/Job Fair, Nabil Skill Hero, and CEO Unplugged.
The closing ceremony of Skill Week 2021 & Nabil Skill Hero award was held in the presence of Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, A Ladakh-based engineer & the man behind the character of ‘Phunsukh Wangdu’ in the Bollywood blockbuster ‘3 Idiots’ and currently serving as Director of Himalayan Institutes of Alternatives, Ladakh.
Wangchuk has been at the forefront of education reforms in India and famous for his radical technological ideas, revolutionary ways & reformative missions. He was the key note speaker at the event. The event also had a press interaction session with Mr. Sonam Wangchuk amidst the ceremony, where he explained the need of skills in the 21st century.
The event showcased four distinct skill areas i.e. Art and Culture, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Hospitality and Science and Technology. Therefore, four veterans were honored with the award of Nabil Skill Hero by Glocal Pvt. Ltd.
For the first pillar i.e. Tourism and Hospitality, Mr. Gagan Pradhan, MD at Himalayan Java was honored as Nabil Skill Hero as he has been an influential figure who has made a mark in the industry and played an integral role in the establishment of the coffee shop industry here in Nepal. Likewise, Kutumba, folk instrumental ensemble committed to the research, preservation and celebration of the diversity that exists in indigenous Nepali music was honored, for their contribution in the field of Art and Culture.
In the Entrepreneurship category, Ms. Shanti Chadha, Founder President of Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal was awarded. Ms. Chadha has impacted thousands of women and families through skill development and economic empowerment initiatives through her personal efforts, her businesses, and her affiliation with several organizations.
And for the Science and Technology, Mr. Pavitra Bahadur Gautam, Co-Founder and CEO of Karkhana was honored for his efforts to provide a platform that can connect real life and classroom using maker based education to create critical learners for 21st century & impact education the same way.
The jury for Nabil Skill Hero by Glocal Pvt. Ltd. were H.E. Ms. Nona Deprez, Ambassador, Delegation of European Union to Nepal and Mr. Upendra Mahato, Chairman, Mahato Group.
Keeping up with the legacy of welcoming country’s most influential CEOs/entrepreneurs to inspire the enthusiastic entrepreneurial minds of the country, Glocal Pvt. Ltd. has successfully concluded the sixth edition of ‘CEO Unplugged 2021’ on the same day at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Kathmandu. With the main theme of ‘Today Meets Tomorrow’, 8 reputed entrepreneurs, bureaucrats and diplomats of the country marked their presence as the speakers on this year’s CEO Unplugged. More than 100 aspirants participated in this highly anticipated event to network, learn, and share their notions with the prominent entrepreneurs of the country.
There were two panel discussions, and each discussion had different exposure to Skill Ecosystem in Nepal. The first panel discussion of CEO Unplugged was held on the topic- “Workforce Upskilling and Reskilling”. The panel had Mr. Asish Thakur, Executive Director of Glocal Pvt.Ltd as a moderator; Mr. Birendra Pandey, Vice-President, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI); Mr. Cabinet Shrestha, Managing Director, Agni Incorporated Pvt. Ltd; Mr. Laxman Shrestha, Chairman/MD, Siddhartha Business Group of Hospitality; H.E. Ms. Nona Deprez, Ambassador, Delegation of the European Union to Nepal; as the panelist for the discussion. The discussion focused on the importance of youth upskilling and reskilling initiatives in order to enhance employee engagement and retention, recruit new talent, improve departmental coordination, and accelerate the adoption of new trends in any sector.
The second panel discussion was on the topic- “Skills for the Post-Pandemic World” The discussion highlighted the need for Nepal’s skills policy landscape to address new trends to develop future skills, improve employability, encourage good work, learn and socialize in the post-pandemic world. The panel had Ms. Astha Sakha, Executive Director, Sakha Group; Mr. Sudeep Acharya, Managing Director, Dish Home; Mr. Suman Ghimire, Joint Secretary, MOLESS, Government of Nepal; and Mr. Ravi Phuyal, ing Group as our panelist for the discussion and was moderated by Mr. Tika Ram Yatri, Editor-in-Chief at AP1 HD TV.
