DSP apologizes for manhandling athelate

Jhapa, July 7 – A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) here has been forced to apologize for manhandling a member of the general public for no reason.
DSP Nal Prasad Upadhyaya at the Kakarvitta Area Police Office had stopped Kumar Shrestha of Bhanu tole in Mechinagar-10 and manhandled him for setting out so early in the morning.
The incident took place at 5:00 in the morning today, when DSP Upadhyaya, flanked by his four aides stopped Shrestha and took him by the ear for not receiving a satisfactory response to his question, "where are you going this early?"
Shrestha, who is a national Karate athlete, leaves for Kakarvitta Sports Ground every morning in order to train his disciples. He, however, could not recognize the police team who were not in their regular uniform.
DSP Upadhyaya had to apologize and pledge to not repeat such incident in the future when youth leaders, athletes and media persons went to the Area Police Office to express their objection over the incident. "It was a big mistake on my part", DSP Upadhyaya said, and added, "I will not repeat it, please forgive me".
Shrestha is also a National Karate Referee and Chair of the Federation Youth Association, Mechinagar Chapter.
