Nepal asks WB to support in constructing transmission lines

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 1 : Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, and the World Bank's Country Director for Nepal, David Sislen, held a meeting today.

During the meeting at the Energy Minister's office, they discussed the World Bank's support for Nepal's energy and irrigation sectors as well as various other issues.

On the occasion, Minister Khadka emphasized that the government would collaborate with the private sector and donor agencies for the development of the energy sector.

He highlighted the need for the World Bank's support in constructing transmission lines required to sell power in the international market.

Sharing that the government has set a goal of producing 28,000 MW of electricity in 10 years, he underlined the need for the World Bank's support to achieve this goal.

Minister Khadka expressed confidence that the construction of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project, currently being built with the World Bank's support, would be completed soon.

Similarly, the World Bank's Country Director for Nepal, David Sislen, affirmed the continued support and cooperation of the World Bank in the development of Nepal's energy and irrigation sectors.

He mentioned that efforts are underway to complete the Upper Arun Hydropower Project soon, adding that the World Bank would prioritize energy and irrigation projects.
