FTQC Office files cases against 44 traders selling substandard products

BAGMATI, SEPTEMBER 1: The Food Technology and Quality Control (FTQC) Office in Hetauda has taken legal action against 44 business firms and individuals in the fiscal year 2023/24 for various trade-related offences, including the sale of substandard and expired food products.

Cases have been filed against seven business firms and traders in Makawanpur, 24 in Kathmandu, five in Chitwan, and eight in Dhulikhel. These actions were based on offences identified through lab tests conducted on samples collected by the Office and various division offices last fiscal year. The cases have been filed under the Food Purity and Quality Act.

Specifically, 32 cases have been filed against business firms in the District Courts, and 12 cases against individuals have been filed in the District Administration Offices for selling contaminated and expired food items, according to Kashinath Ghimire, Chief of the FTQC Office in Hetauda.

Ghimire reported that the Office tested and analyzed 2,738 samples during the last fiscal year.
