Qatari businesspersons seeking investment opportunities in Nepal

SEPTEMBER 3: Qatari investors are actively seeking investment opportunities in Nepal, particularly in the IT sector, pharmaceutical industry, banking and financial services, hydropower, and tourism.

"Investors here are looking for investment opportunities in Nepal," said Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce. "We will encourage more investors."

During the first meeting of the Nepal-Qatar Business Council, held in Doha, the capital of Qatar yesterday, Chairman Thani met with a delegation from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), led by its President Chandra Prasad Dhakal. They discussed expanding economic relations between the two countries.

During Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's state visit to Nepal on April 23 and 24, an agreement was signed to establish a Business Council between the FNCCI and the Qatar Chamber.

In this inaugural chairman-level meeting of the Council, FNCCI President Dhakal and Qatar Chamber Chairman Thani agreed to appoint members under their respective leadership to finalize the Council soon. Dhakal also proposed organizing a Qatar-Nepal Business Summit in Nepal, and there was consensus to hold the program next year.

During the meeting, FNCCI President Dhakal emphasized that Nepal has external sector stability and that recent legal reforms have created favorable investment opportunities. He invited Qatari investors to consider investments in hydropower, tourism, information technology, and skill development in Nepal, where ample opportunities exist. Additionally, Dhakal represented the private sector of Nepal at the Asian Cooperation Dialogue organized by the Qatari government.
