Import of motorcycles via Birgunj Customs up by over 76 percent

PARSA (BIRGUNJ), OCTOBER 17: Motorcycle imports through the Birgunj Customs Office increased by 76.86% in the first two months of this fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, 7,120 motorcycles were imported during this review period, compared to the same period in the last fiscal.

Chief Customs Officer Deepak Lamichhane stated that while the import of four-wheel vehicles has decreased, the import of two-wheelers has increased through the Birgunj border.

In Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) and Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) of 2024/25, 16,384 motorcycles worth NPR 2.07 billion were imported, compared to 9,264 motorcycles worth NPR 1.13 billion during the same period of 2023/24.

Additionally, in the first two months of 2023/24, motorcycle (including moped) spare parts worth NPR 239.04 million, totalling 1,265,627 units, had been imported. During the same period this fiscal year, 1,661,531 units of spare parts worth NPR 341.72 million were brought into the country.
