Over 1,700 new industries registered in Karnal

KANKREBIHAR (SURKHET), OCTOBER 20: In the current fiscal year, 1,795 small industries have been registered across 10 districts of Karnali Province, while 410 industries have been closed.

According to the Directorate of Industry and Consumer Protection of Karnali Province, approximately one-quarter of the industries registered or renewed in the fiscal year 2080-81 were later dissolved.

The closures include 166 industries in Surkhet, 81 in Jumla, 37 in Kalikot, 35 in Salyan, 28 each in Dailekh and Jajarkot, 22 in Rukum Paschim, seven in Humla, and six in Mugu. Information Officer Theer Bahadur Shrestha noted that many of the industries shut down were small businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, and agricultural farms.

He explained that industries often cancel their registrations to avoid penalties or restrictions, as new registrations are not permitted unless existing businesses are officially closed. This has particularly impacted small-scale industries with limited investment.

During the last fiscal year, in addition to the 1,795 new registrations, 2,055 industries were renewed. Salyan recorded 132 new registrations and 236 renewals, Jajarkot had 153 new industries and 83 renewals, while Rukum Paschim saw 110 new registrations alongside 74 renewals.
