Trade deficit down by Rs 14 billion

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 24: In the first three months of the current fiscal year, goods worth approximately Rs 400 billion have been imported into the country. According to statistics released by the Customs Department, imports as of the end of the last Nepali month of Ashwin (mid-September to mid-October) totalled Rs 390.75 billion. This represents a 4.7 percent decrease compared to the same period last fiscal year when imports amounted to Rs 407.75 billion.

Exports also declined by 6.11 percent, totalling Rs 38.37 billion in the current fiscal year's first three months. In the corresponding period last fiscal year, exports were valued at Rs 40.87 billion.

Total foreign trade decreased by Rs 19 billion to Rs 429 billion during the review period this year. As a result, the total trade deficit also fell by Rs 14 billion to Rs 352 billion
