Both imports and expors via Birgunj down

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 27 : Imports and exports through the Birgunj customs point declined during the first three months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the country imported goods worth Rs 143 billion in this period, reflecting a 6.43% decrease compared to Rs 153 billion in the same period last year. Birgunj remains a critical trade hub, handling a significant portion of Nepal’s foreign trade.

Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane attributed the decline in imports to disruptions caused by heavy rainfall during the period. However, despite the drop in import volume, overall revenue collection increased during these three months.

Similarly, exports through Birgunj customs also saw a slight dip. Nepal exported goods worth Rs 7.7 billion in the first quarter, down from Rs 8 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
