Kabeli Corridor Transmission Line reconstruction completes

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 5 : The reconstruction of the double-circuit 132 kV Kabeli Corridor Transmission Line has been completed. Four transmission towers were damaged by floods from the Maikhola River on September 28 in Dhodrebesi, Wards 1 and 7 of Mai Municipality, Ilam.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) collaborated with 20 private-sector hydroelectric projects feeding power into the Kabeli Corridor to carry out the repairs. The transmission line was brought back into operation at 4:30 pm on Monday after reconstruction efforts.
Mohan Karki, an energy entrepreneur representing the private sector in the reconstruction, reported that the work was completed in 19 days from its initiation.
With the transmission line restored, hydroelectric projects in Taplejung, Panchthar, and Ilam have resumed power production. NEA provided the spare parts and equipment needed for the transmission line, while private-sector power projects covered other expenses, including labor costs for reconstruction. Each private project contributed financially to the effort.
The flood had damaged Towers Nos. 50, 51, 52, and 53 on the line section from Godak in Ilam to Damak in Jhapa. Towers 51 and 52 were completely destroyed and required new construction, while Towers 50 and 53 sustained partial damage and were repaired.
