LUMBINI, NOVEMBER 13 : Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chetnarayan Acharya, has proposed seeking support for a feasibility study to explore the operation of a monorail within the Buddha Circuit. Chief Minister Acharya yesterday presented the proposal to foreign investors in China where he went to attend an international trade and investment conference hosted by the Sichuan provincial government,
The plan aims to connect the districts of Rupandehi, Nawalparasi West, and Kapilvastu through the Buddha Circuit. According to the Chief Minister’s secretariat, the feasibility study is a critical first step, with further actions dependent on investor response. Acharya also outlined a comprehensive plan to transform the province's capital into a model city, complete with an extensive road network, capturing the attention of investors and experts.
Additionally, Chief Minister Acharya highlighted opportunities for investment in agriculture, industry, and trade development across the province. Discussions during the conference emphasized key infrastructure projects, including constructing the province’s capital city, a tunnel linking Lumbini — the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha — and Rapti Dekhuri, as well as developing tourism infrastructure and the monorail system in various parts of the Buddha Circuit. Support from a Chinese technical university for Lumbini Technical University was also discussed.
The Chief Minister is attending the conference alongside Lumbini Province Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Dhanendra Karki, Principal Secretary Mahadev Pantha, and other officials.
