Dedicated Trunk Line dispute : Supreme Court summons both parties for discussions

The Supreme Court has summoned both parties to discuss the dedicated trunk line dispute. The court issued this summons while hearing a writ petition filed by Advocate Khadananda Kandel, who works at the law firm of Nepal Electricity Authority’s attorney, Sharad Koirala. Declining to grant an interim order, the court opted to invite both sides for further deliberation.

In a Cabinet meeting held on Sunday (Nov. 10), a decision was made to reconnect the electricity supply to industries whose power had been cut off, stipulating that the outstanding dues for the long-standing dispute over “dedicated” and “trunk line” electricity tariffs would be collected based on Time of Day (TOD) meters.

Challenging this decision, Advocate Kandel filed a writ petition against the Government of Nepal, the Electricity Authority, and the Authority’s Executive Director, Kulman Ghising. Hearing this petition, the bench of Justice Nityananda Pandey ordered a discussion, emphasizing the need to hear arguments from both parties before reaching a conclusion on the interim order.
