Nepali and Indian ministers discuss bilateral trade in New Delhi

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 5: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies of Nepal, Damodar Bhandari, met with Pralhad Joshi, India’s Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy, yesterday evening in New Delhi.

The meeting, held at Minister Joshi's office, focused on issues of mutual interest, including the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for Nepali companies and facilitation in the import of essential food grains such as wheat, rice, and sugar.

Minister Bhandari highlighted the need for smoother processes in importing essential commodities from India to Nepal. According to Tarka Raj Bhatt, Under-Secretary at Nepal's Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies and a member of the delegation, the talks on this matter were positive and constructive.

Additionally, Minister Bhandari urged the Indian side to facilitate the export and marketing of Nepali products in India. Discussions also addressed the importance of enhanced collaboration between Nepal’s Bureau of Standards and Metrology and India’s BIS to streamline trade and improve standards compliance.

The meeting marks a step forward in strengthening economic ties and resolving trade-related challenges between the two neighboring countries.
