52-MW electricity produced by Rasuwagadhi Hydropower

RASUWA, DECEMBER 23: The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, located in Timure, northern Rasuwa, has successfully completed its test production phase.
The powerhouse has been constructed as an underground facility along the Bhotekoshi River in Tatopani, part of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality Wards 1 and 2. It is equipped to house three machines, each with a capacity of 33 MW.
According to Project Chief Satyaram Jyakhwa, the initial test generated 52 MW of electricity, though the output was limited due to reduced water levels caused by cold weather. The project is expected to operate at full capacity during the rainy season when all three units will be fully functional.
The total cost of the project stands at Rs. 18.69 billion. Despite construction beginning in 2014, the project faced significant delays due to various challenges, including a shortage of petroleum products, the devastating 2015 earthquake, seasonal floods in the Bhotekoshi River, and transportation disruptions caused by highway blockades during the monsoon season.
