Production of fish, milk up in Madhes Province

PARSA, JANUARY 20: The Madhes Province produced 45,571 metric tonnes of fish in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, according to a report by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). Fish production in the province increased by 5.04 percent compared to the fiscal year 2079/80 BS.
Bara district led the province in fish production, contributing 22.43 percent of the total, while Parsa district had the lowest contribution at 7.99 percent.
Despite the rise in production, farmers have raised concerns about limited marketing opportunities and pricing challenges for fish.
“Imports from India were high, but local production is now increasing. However, we still lack technical expertise in fisheries and fingerling production,” said Dinanath Sah, a farmer from Pakahamainapur in Parsa.
The NRB report also highlighted a rise in milk production in the province, reaching 654,123 litres in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. Siraha district recorded the highest milk production, while Saptari contributed the least.
