Chandragiri Municipality launches online citizenship recommendation service

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 28: Chandragiri Municipality has introduced an online recommendation system for citizenship certificates, becoming the first in Kathmandu Valley to implement such a service. The initiative was launched in Ward 12, Balambu, following training provided to secretaries from 15 wards and executive members with support from the Home Ministry and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

Mayor Ghanshyam Giri and Chief Administrative Officer Hem Raj Aryal inaugurated the service by processing online recommendations for residents Anuj Maharjan and Tisha Shrestha on Monday.

The Home Ministry reported that as of mid-January, 2,000 wards across 28 districts have adopted online recommendations for citizenship certificates, a process initially launched in Gaindakot, Nawalparasi, last year. This digital approach has enhanced record-keeping, improved service delivery, and reduced errors in documentation.

Chandragiri Municipality plans to expand the service to all its wards within the week. Currently, the municipality also offers digital services for house map certification, revenue collection, and vital registration. Mayor Giri highlighted plans to implement digital signatures soon, aligning with the government's push for tech-friendly governance.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mukti Ram Rijal praised Chandragiri Municipality's efforts, expressing optimism that similar initiatives would be adopted across all local levels in Kathmandu.
