Online labour permit approval begins from UAE

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 14: The government has launched an online labour permit approval service in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Nepal's Embassy in Abu Dhabi is the second diplomatic mission to provide this service, following the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat.
The service was inaugurated by Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Sarat Singh Bhandari, during an event in Dubai on Thursday, as confirmed by the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi.
Minister Bhandari highlighted that the government aims to gradually enhance the service, making it more accessible, user-friendly, and technology-driven to support the welfare of Nepali migrant workers abroad. He noted that the online labour permit system would enable Nepali workers to continue their professions and businesses without the need to travel back to Nepal for document updates.
He also mentioned that the service would be gradually extended to other diplomatic missions. Acknowledging the large youth workforce employed abroad and the significance of foreign employment as a key source of remittance, Minister Bhandari emphasized the need for contextual policies to safeguard Nepali migrant workers as part of improved migration governance.
Similarly, Nepal's Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Oli, reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to protecting the rights of Nepali migrant workers and delivering effective services despite limited resources.
The event was attended by representatives from the Diaspora community, the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA), and other organizations. An interaction program on labour issues was also held during the event.
Minister Bhandari is currently in Dubai to participate in the World Government Summit 2025.
