Ordinances for spurring national economy, good governance: Minister Gurung

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 20: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has stated that opposing ordinances is meaningless, as they are introduced for the welfare of the people and the country's prosperity.

Speaking at the 64th anniversary of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) yesterday, Minister Gurung emphasized that the ordinances aim to revitalize the economy, address challenges in the cooperative sector, and provide sustainable solutions for landless squatters.

Expressing surprise at the opposition’s objections, he argued that rather than debating their content, opposing parties have outright rejected the ordinances. As the government’s spokesperson, Gurung asserted that passing these ordinances is essential for good governance and public service. He urged all political parties to cooperate in their endorsement.

The Minister noted that delays in enacting and revising laws have hindered expected outcomes. Stressing the need for democratic and inclusive government institutions, he highlighted the importance of healthy competition and adherence to the rule of law in a democratic system. "We are now prioritizing necessary policy transformations," he added.

Addressing recent political developments, Gurung remarked that the alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) was formed to safeguard democracy. He expressed confidence that the current government would ensure both democratic stability and national development. He also underscored the need for Nepal to embrace a 'comprehensive inclusive democracy.'

Regarding state-owned media, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making them more systematic and timely. He stressed that such media should not merely represent government views but also reflect diverse public perspectives.

Minister Gurung praised RSS for its contributions, including the establishment of an archive, expansion of multilingual news services, and round-the-clock operations. He thanked RSS for its constructive role in strengthening the nation's media landscape.
