Covid-19 update: India logs 2,503 new cases in 24 hours, the lowest in 680 days

New Delhi March 14. India continued to witness a steep drop in the number of Covid-19 cases as the country reported 2,503 new infections in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 680 days, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday.
This has taken the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in India to 42.99 million. Registering a sharp decline in Covid-19 deaths, India on Monday recorded 27 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 515,877.
With this, the active caseload in the country stands at 36,168 and the daily positivity rate in the country currently is 0.47%, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare revealed.
Additionally, India’s current active caseload at 36,168 is lowest in 675 days, informed the Ministry. The ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
The active cases comprise 0.08% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.72%, the ministry added. As many as 77.90 crore total tests have been conducted so far and 5,32,232 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
A reduction of 1,901 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,24,41,449 and the case fatality rate was recorded as 1.20%.
The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive have exceeded 180.19 crores, the ministry added.India News Network
