ICAO conference from Monday

Kathmandu, Aug 19.A conference of aviation Director Generals of International Civil Aviation organisation (ICAO) is taking place in Kathmandu from August 19.

Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Rajan Pokharel, said that aviation Director Generals of countries of Asia Pacific region would participate in the five-day conference.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the conference. Some 390 senior officials from across the region would participate in the conference. Chairperson of ICAO and security officers would also participate in the conference.

Saying the conference, where there would be a big gathering of high-level foreign officers, has its own significance, Pokharel expressed the belief that the conference would be useful to disseminate positive message about Nepal’s aviation and tourism sectors.

There are 193 member countries in ICAO including Nepal. Nepal is organising the conference for the third time on the occasion of 75th anniversary of ICAO. Earlier, Nepal had organised the conference in 1976 and 1998.

Pokharel said that there would be participation of different international organisations including Boeing, Airbus, International Air and Transport Association.

Discussion would be held on various issues including safety, security, technical capacity building and infrastructure development of aviation of Asia Pacific region in the conference.

The conclusion of this conference would be presented at the 40th general assembly of ICAO to be organised in October.
